“BEAUTIFUL NONSENSE : THE ABURD OBJECT” curated by artist Norm Magnusson of Rhinebeck, plays tricks on our perception of ordinary objects.  The objects, seemingly familiar, demand an extra moment for t he viewer to absorb the absence of their functionality and to reinterpret the object.  Picture this if you will, opera-length pink latex gloves with hundreds of straight pins protruding from the entire service (Eleanor White); pitch black wrought iron skillets in inconvenient shapes with multiple handles (Myra Mimlitsch –Gray); or a round, bright red ladder to nowhere (Steve Rossi).

“Where we lose balance we gain new perspectives” Norm Magnusson.

Selected artists are Jared Handelsman, Livia Marin, Myra Mimlitsch-Gray, Steve Rossi, Eleanor White, Jeff Newman, Joy Taylor and Chris Victor.

“KEVIN PAULSEN:  WINTER THEOREMS” Kevin Paulsen of Kingston is a prolific artist and muralist whose work brings to mind the 19th century American Itinerant artists.  The effortless movements and confidence with which he uses his materials creates a lush and beautiful atmosphere veiled eith dark mythology.  Using only the simplest of tools such as a toothbrush, ink, charcoal and tape Paulsen’s brilliance shimmers.

RoCA welcomes Kevin Paulsen in this inaugural viewing of two never before seen series Entitled “Winter Theorems” and “Outskirts”.

Paulsen ‘s solo exhibitions include such prestigious places as Bergdorf Goodman, NYC, NY; Graphicus Gallery, Nantucket, MA;  Kelley Roy Gallery, Miami, FL; Nantucket House, Nantucket, MA; Nathan Turner, Los Angeles, CA; Tyler Taylor Fine Art, New Cannan, CT;  David Findlay Gallery, New York, NY; and Gore Dean, Washington, DC.

Opening Reception will be held Saturday, February 13, 2-5 pm and is on view through April 3, 2-16.  Mon-Fri 10-5, Sat 10-4, Sun 1-4.   For more information go to www.rocklandartcenter.org or call 845-358-0877.
