ABOUT THE PERFORMANCES

Broadway Training Center of Westchester presents A New Brain

Book by William Finn & James Lapine

Music & Lyrics by William Finn

Directed by Jason Brantman and Fiona Santos

Performed by the BTC Senior Ensemble Program

Rated PG-13

This powerful yet funny musical takes audiences on an emotional journey, ultimately leaving them inspired and uplifted. Though many of William Finn's musicals are known to be somewhat autobiographical, A New Brain deals directly with his own harrowing experience with an arteriovenous malformation and the healing power of art. The show centers around Gordon Schwinn, a frustrated composer for a children's TV show, who finds himself in the hospital. Confronted with medical uncertainties, he contemplates life, relationships, and the meaning of music while being haunted by an imaginary frog from a show he's composing. Tony Award-winners - William Finn and James Lapine's brilliance shines in every note and word, delivering infectious, toe-tapping tunes and heartrending moments that take audiences on a rollercoaster of tears, laughter, and sing-alongs. The musical premiered Off-Broadway in 1998 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater at Lincoln Center and enjoyed a 2015 revival as part of the Encores! Off-Center Staged Concert.
