In order for children to gain understanding and appreciation for animals indigenious to our area, express understanding through the creative process and performance, and expand vocabulary reltating to nature and the environment, we will focus each week on a differnt animal, learning through interactive storytelling and fables, examining pelts and live animals (where applicable) and learn about thier habitats and lifestyles. We will design and construct simple costumes highlighting significant features of the animals, act out a story, and take a short hike with a focus on the weekly theme.
Designed for children and their caregivers, we welcome indoor or outdoor picnicking before or after class, and a designated snack break between activities. Please provide your own nut-free food!
The class is led by Carolyn Nielsen, a local teacher and theatre professional who believes in learning in a nurturing, joyful, process-oriented exploration of self and surroundings. Please check out her web site www.dramamammas.com
