Firefox is a residential overnight camp at Hawk Circle Wilderness Education, that give campers a powerful week of skills that teach you how to take care of yourself in the wild. Shelter building, campfire cooking, wildlife tracking, first aid, safety and navigation, woodcraft and carving, leathercraft and hide tanning, as well as many crafts like bark baskets, stone tools, natural jewelery and more.
Campers learn to work in teams to accomplish skills challenges that are inclusive and fun learning experiences. We play games, go on hikes and wandering and gathering expeditions, pick berries, make campfires and explore the creeks, forest, meadows and trails that Hawk Circle has to discover.
Each skills is taught to begin an understanding of the basics, as well as learn to 'master it, whether it's making a fire without matches, identify trees and plants or make rope with naturally gathered fibers.
Campers return with a deep appreciation and knowledge of the natural world that greatly expands their understanding of nature and their own place within the web of life, as well as a circle of new friends and mentors who often become friends for life.
All skills are real, authentic earth living skills, tested by experienced and seasoned camp instructors using high quality materials. Campers sleep in hand crafted timber frame cabins and share hearty, healthy home-cooked meals. We are located 9 miles for Cooperstown, NY, in the wild hills of Cherry Valley. Established in 1989.
