Sybil Ludington is included in the Core Curriculum for schools across America. This reenactment of her historic ride is a great opportunity for students and for the young and old alike to see history come alive. Special parking is available close to the event for school buses. The event will last about 45 minutes.
Col. Larry A. Maxwell, Patterson Town Historian and Commander of the 4th New York Regiment will be addressing the public and will be available for questions after the event. Col. Maxwell is author of the book Sybil Rides, The True Story of Sybil Ludington the Female Paul Revere, the Burning of Danbury and Battle of Ridgefield. There are three editions of the Sybil Rides book including an Elementary Reader Edition and an Expanded Hardcover edition. Autographed copies of the books will be available for purchase at the event.
This event is being presented by the Living History Guild and Putnam County. It is sponsored by The Hudson Valley Trust and the Whipple Foundation.
Reenactors from the Sybil Rides event will be participating in the 245th Anniversary of the Battle of Ridgefield on Saturday, in Ridgefield, CT. The public is also welcome to attend.
