Winter Ecology Walk - Black Rock Forest Consortium

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 12/17/2022
Walk with Terryanne Maenza-Gmelch, PhD (Barnard College, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science) to explore Black Rock Forest’s December botanical and avian treasures! Take a moment to brush up on your botanical Latin as we look for evergreen plants like Mitchella repens, Polystichum acrostichoides, Gaultheria procumbens, bryophytes, lycopods and more, in addition to the winter resident birds. We will walk from Mailley’s Mill Bridge to the Upper Reservoir and back and then onto Sibyl’s Path for some Polypodium virginianum and lichens. Load the free Merlin Bird ID app on your phone. See you there.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

An email will be sent to registered participants prior to the hike with parking information and additional arrival details.

This hike is free to Friends of the Forest (annual supporters); or $10/per person. Space is limited and registration and a signed waiver are required. To become a Friend of the Forest or to make a payment for this hike, please visit our donation page.
